This month we trace how the work of the spirit spread across India. The early Apostles traveled far and wide taking the gospel to remote parts of the country. As we celebrate this Pentecost 2020 let us look back and be encouraged by the works of the Holy Spirit.
Generating Growth
All through the 1980’s new members and ministers were added to the flock as the The New Apostolic Church grew across the country. Led by the example of District Apostle Kraus, Apostles and ministers conducted numerous services across thousands of miles and sealed hundreds of members. The then District Apostle’s vision was to reach out into every remote territory, exemplified by the slogan: “Go where nobody goes.”
Sowing Seeds of Faith
As hundreds of souls were added to the care of the New Apostolic Church, there was an unstoppable growth of Apostles, ministers, membership and church buildings. Members form some of the most remote parts of the country were now connected to a larger community of brothers and sisters in faith.
Growth in Numbers
Towards the end of the decade, statistics show that India had 40 active Apostles who were assisted by 8429 ministers, serving some 1.2 million members across 8655 congregations. Although these numbers indicated rapid growth, it was also proving difficult to sustain the growth not just in quantity but in faith as well.
Fervent and Faithful
As we celebrate Pentecost in this 50th anniversary year, may we remain fervent in our faith that the Lord’s work will be fulfilled in us. The work of the Holy Spirit was brought to us through the ministry of Grace and Apostleship fifty years ago and it is our hope that we continue to bear the fruits of the Spirit until the return of our Lord Jesus Chris.
