16 February 2026

One year ago, on February 16, 2025, with a heavy heart, we bid farewell to our dear Apostle Prasad Bhaskar. Today, we remember him and his life with gratitude and reverence.

Early Life and Career

Rev. Prasad Bhaskar was born on June 5, 1926, to Mr. Narayan Bhaskar and Mrs. Kamalamma in Bangalore, Karnataka. He completed his secondary education at the Methodist Boys' High School in Nampally, Hyderabad. Following his education, he dedicated 30 years of service to the State Bank of Hyderabad before retiring from his secular career.

He married Ida Balamani, a native of Mysore District, Karnataka. Together, they raised two children — a son and a daughter.

Spiritual Calling and Ministry

Following his early retirement from the State Bank of India, Prasad Bhaskar was introduced to the New Apostolic Church through his classmate and Apostle, Jaywant Thompson.

Initially, he was appointed by Apostle Thompson to assist in the administrative work for various areas in Andhra Pradesh and Bidar in Karnataka.

He received his Priestly Ministry from Apostle Jaywant Thompson. He was later ordained as an Apostle by Chief Apostle Hans Urwyler in 1982 to care for almost 400 congregations across a large part of (undivided) Andhra Pradesh. After 14 years of service, in 1996, he received his Retirement Blessing from Chief Apostle Richard Fehr in Kenya.

Post-retirement, he was responsible for assisting as a Spiritual Co-ordinator for the All India Teaching Program for three to four years. He was also instrumental in installing many borewells across the arid regions of Andhra Pradesh.

Final Farewell

After the demise of his wife and his daughter almost 10 years ago, Apostle Bhaskar lived alone with very little assistance from employed caretakers. Seeing his condition, the family moved him to a Dementia Care Centre, where he spent his last year or two. At the ripe age of 98, Apostle Prasad Bhaskar passed away due to age-related causes.

Apostles and several ministers who served under his leadership attended the funeral service, bearing heartfelt condolences from our New Apostolic world.

Apostle Prasad Bhaskar is remembered for his dedication and tireless work in spreading the gospel. His contributions to administrative work and spiritual teaching played a significant role in the growth of the Church in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

Through his dedication and service, he has touched countless lives. May he find eternal rest in God's heavenly embrace.
