Proverbs 29:18 rightly says that when there is no vision, the people perish. And that is why the Apostles of NAC India meet regularly to measure their progress, to get orientation, and to plan ahead into the future. From 6 to 8 December 2017, the three-day All India Apostles Meeting was held in Bengaluru. It was attended by seven Apostles and District Apostle Helper David Devaraj. The four main topics of this meeting were (1) a presentation on membership statistics of NAC India, followed by (2) the redistribution of working areas for the Apostles. This was linked to (3) the introduction of new formats for scheduling and a session on (4) data collection in all the congregations. Spiritual Part On two days, Apostle David started with a spiritual part which was taken from the Chief Apostle meeting in Raipur on 11 November 2017. Part 1 He reflected on the gratitude to the sisters – especially the wives of the Apostles and Bishops – who often had to differentiate between two roles: their husband and the Apostle or Bishop. At the same time, they were aware of the weaknesses of their husband. He reminded everyone present that they had to behave like […]
Children wait in eager anticipation for their summer vacations. After months of school, homework, exams and wearing uniforms, they finally get to just sit back and do fun things. Our school children across Hyderabad were excited about their holidays. In addition to visiting relatives and playing games, they were also going to attend a special five-day Vacation Bible School (VBS) in May. What made VBS 2017 a little extra special was that seven churches across Hyderabad held the classes simultaneously – around 350 children along with 35 teachers made the five-day classes interesting and interactive. Doing the Groundwork Before the VBS could kick-off, 52 teachers and ministers met in the Hafeezpet church on 30 April 2017. The programme agenda was discussed and the material and stationary were all kept ready. VBS batches were made according to age groups – Beginners (4-6), Primary (7-9), Juniors (10-12), and Seniors (13+). Budgets had been set and the rectors and ministers had provided the finance to take care of programme materials, snacks and food for the teachers and students. VBS in Session VBS was filled with telling the children Bible stories, and to learn and recite important portions of Scripture like the Lord’s Prayer and the […]
Thanksgiving is the act of giving thanks to God for everything that we receive at his hand. The New Apostolic Church celebrates the first Sunday of October as Thanksgiving Sunday when all members of the church can come together and express their gratitude towards the Lord. India is a land known for its diversity in language, customs, tradition and lifestyles. This diversity is reflected in the ways in which the congregations across the country express their thankfulness. When our members come together to celebrate Thanksgiving, it is like a tide of thankfulness sweeping across the nation. The altar fills with the offering of thanksgiving brought by each member in the congregation. Count Your Blessings It is not always easy to give thanks, but it is important to do this in order to experience God’s will accomplished in His children’s lives. We remember His natural and spiritual creation, His love and our experience of his blessings especially on this day. Thanksgiving helps us take stock of all that we have received and look into our feelings of thankfulness. Words: Elizabeth Kumar / Esther David Images: Archive NAC India
September 2017: Without Words What a shame—yet another minister is retiring. And this one really had something to say! No one would ever sleep when he was preaching—not even on a hot and sticky Wednesday evening after a long and stressful day at work. His words really carried weight, not only in the divine service, but also in pastoral visits, and even in the brief statements he would often make while saying good-bye to people at church. And it was quite clear to everyone: behind these words there was a great deal of experience, both in life and in faith. And now this fellow is going to find himself sitting in the pew! Many would have loved to see him carry on a little longer in active service. But who has ever said that a retired minister is no longer capable of preaching? Although it may no longer be in words, he can often preach just as effectively as he did before! A sermon without words is at times even more effective than one delivered from the altar. The way he accepts the young ministers (who are at times something of an acquired taste), the way he deals with the changes that […]
Monsoon trips are always rejuvenating! The youth of Pune could experience this on their trip to the Pavana Dam – back water, near Lonavala. It was a one day trip for the youth to enjoy and reconnect with nature. The cheerful attitude of the youth and nature’s beauty was a good combination for an ideal tirp. The youth enjoyed the waterfalls to their fullest! Their journey then took them to their next halt, Mar Chrysotom retreat center, near Lonavala. They enjoyed a nice lunch and a seminar with District Apostle Helper David Devaraj and Apostle Pravin Gajbhiv. The youth were taught how they can connect with the church and its members using websites, apps and social media that they are most familiar with. After some fun activities and outdoor games, the youth returned to the New Apostolic Church in Kalewadi. Food for the Soul On Saturday evening, Apostle David conducted a Divine Service at Kalewadi, where more than 200 members had gathered. The sermon was based on Psalms 139:24, “And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting”. Apostle David elaborated on how we must not hold onto our own wishes and […]
