DISTRICT APOSTLE

Mark Woll (born on 13 March 1959) is responsible for the District Apostle Area (DAA) Canada.  He was appointed as District Apostle in 2010 and succeeded Leslie Latorcai in this great responsibility.

His working areas include Bangladesh, Chad, Central African Republic, Cambodia, Canada, Republic of the Congo, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Rwanda and Sri Lanka. Mark Woll also heads the international Project Group ‘Children’s Teaching Materials’.

Beyond the tasks incumbent on each Apostle, the District Apostle is responsible for providing uniform pastoral care, caring for the congregations, and spiritually equipping the ministers within his District Apostle Area (DAA). Moreover he defines the points of emphasis in church work, decides on the ordination of ministers, and seeks to preserve the oneness in the circle of the Apostles.
As a rule, he celebrates Holy Communion for the departed within his working area.

One task that goes beyond the actual work within the District Apostle district is participation in conferences of the District Apostle Meeting (DAM), which advises and supports the Chief Apostle in leading the Church. In addition, the District Apostle is the general representative for his District Church.

Interview with our District Apostle (2015)

What was your favourite ministry/ commission?

Although being an Apostle brings me the joy of seeing God’s work in a broader area and from a global perspective, my favourite ministry/ commission was being a Priest and Rector of a congregation. Every Sunday after the divine service we could enjoy having a different family from the congregation over to our house for lunch. As a Priest, I had a chance to develop a very close connection to my brothers and sisters. These were also my wife’s favourite years.

As an Apostle do you have time to socialize and pursue other interests?

I enjoy biking, snow skiing, water skiing, scuba diving and watching old movies. As the church and my family take priority, I find that I generally only have time to do these things on vacation. However, I try to make time to exercise three times a week and sometimes even ride my bicycle 12 kilometers to the office. Although the Lord’s work is seven days a week, I make a point of including time with my family in my annual calendar. We try to spend at least half our vacation time with our adult children. Planning this in my schedule is very important to me. As District Apostles, we already know our annual calendar a year in advance. This is a blessing because it forces us to schedule family and personal time in advance. Without such planning, the time would be gone before we know it, and we might miss out on important family experiences.

Do you travel a lot and how far is the most remote congregation in your district?

In 2014 I spent 180 days away from home. Distance can be measured in two ways: by the amount of space between two places, or by how long it takes to make the journey. Cambodia is the furthest district away from home at 13,900 kilometers. However, it can take up to three days of flying and driving to reach some of our congregations in Tchad, Congo, India, and Pakistan.
